Human diversity is good, but deliberate perversity is bad.
Homosexuals in the United States have been working very hard for a long time to change people’s minds. They’ve been putting every kind of pressure possible on law makers, the popular media (including the news media, of course), and the population in general to accept, exalt and even promote a perverse lifestyle. Not surprisingly, considering the spiritual and moral condition of our society, they are making progress.
Homosexuality is nothing new. Deviant behavior has been around almost as long as human beings have existed on this planet. The Bible mentions murder, for example, as early as the second generation, when Cain killed his brother Abel. And homosexuality itself is identified in Scripture from the books of Moses onward.
The Bible teaches us that humanity is cursed with sin: an inherent propensity for evil and perverse behavior which goes against the will of God, our Creator. Sin expresses itself in many forms, and all of them are bad. They are bad (and against the will of God) because they are harmful to individuals, to families, to nations, and/or to the world as a whole. The Bible is God’s revelation of both right and wrong, and it exposes sin and its many expressions, as well as the consequences for sin.
Homosexuality was condemned early on in Scripture, as Moses prepared a body of teaching and laws for the nation of Israel. The New Testament also condemns homosexual behavior, making it clear that those who continue to practice such acts will not inherit the kingdom of God. Homosexual acts are included with other forms of sexual impurity and perversity that have no place among God’s people.
Because Bible-believing Christians condemn homosexuality, they are often accused of inciting hatred. Well, we do, after all, hate sin, if we truly know and follow Jesus Christ. Any genuine child of God will hate all forms of sin, because sin brings ruin to human lives. But we do not hate people, and we do not encourage our society to hate people. We hate the evil things people do to themselves and to others.
Non-Christians may wonder why we “make it our business” to speak out against homosexuality, adultery, pornography or any kind of immorality. We do so because we care about our own children, our community, our society and nation. Just as no human body can remain strong and healthy while serving as a host to disease, so no family, community or larger society can long endure that rejects the moral laws of God.
God reveals His will for humanity because He wants us to live as full and rich a life as possible in this world. We can make this planet a better and safer place for all people by following God’s guidelines. Rejecting the plainly revealed will of God, however, only leads to pain and suffering for everyone concerned.
When parents commit adultery, for example, it often leads to separation and divorce. This destroys the stable, secure home that children need. Divorce often leads to economic hardship for both parents, and a strained relationship between children and other family members.
Homosexual relationships and state-sanctioned unions among homosexual adults can only lead to confusion and the worst possible moral examples for any children forced to live in such an environment. Morally confused and perverse examples in childhood will often lead the children to embrace equally perverse lifestyles as adults.
Homosexuality is as wrong, as destructive and twisted as any other perverse behavior. It is as humanly natural and as evil as murder, as child molestation, as wife-beating, as political corruption, adultery, abortion, unbridled greed, and racial discrimination. Wrong is wrong, evil is evil, immoral is immoral — no matter how common or popular it becomes in any generation.
While homosexuality is not unique in its destructive influences on society, and especially on children, it is certainly not worth defending as an acceptable lifestyle. Regardless of the desire homosexuals have to be accepted as “normal” by others, they will never be able to truly or fully accept themselves, nor are they simply another biologically normal expression of human diversity.
Everyone sins, if they live long enough. We have all made terrible choices in our lives. And many human beings experiment sexually in some way while growing up, or even after they would be expected to know better. Who has not lied or stolen or lusted or hated at some point? Who has not practiced some form of self-righteousness, some form of hypocrisy? Most of us have broken more than one of the Ten Commandments on more than one occasion.
But to embrace any sin, and to exalt it, justify it, fight for it is foolish. As mentioned above, human society cannot endure in health and strength without morality, without standards of decency, without common sense. To call wrong right is stupid. To call evil good is foolishness. To make criminals of those who speak out for what is right can only lead to the destruction of any society.
As Christian believers we must continue to speak up for the truth. As Americans, we must actively defend common sense and moral right. As men and women of any society we must do whatever is in our power to defend the children of this generation and of those to come. God will always judge sin. He often does so by eventually removing His hand of protection to allow us to face the obvious and natural consequences of our poor choices. Why go there? Why not choose life rather than death, and health rather than ruin? Speak the truth, share the gospel, and ask God to guide us all into wise thinking, wise choices.

Ultimately, that would not be something for me to deal with, since my children are all grown. It would their choice to make.
If my child was a murderer, an adulterer, a homosexual, a practicing thief, I would not stop loving them or turn my back on them. But my response to them would not make their sin any less wrong or any less harmful.
Sin is sin, regardless of the closeness of a particular sin. In fact, every human being is dealing with some kind of sin or another in his or her life. Christians are not free of temptation and sin. We all must deal with some kind of weakness or another. And we must find the strength we need in Jesus Christ to keep sin from overtaking our own lives.
The Bible-believing Christian’s response to sin in another person is not one of hate toward the individual, since all are sinners in need of God’s grace and rescue. We hate the sin because we see the damage it causes to the heart, mind and life of the sinner and of other people involved. Our response needs to be one of compassion and understanding, since we know that we also struggle against evil in our own lives.
